root canal treatment - Fort Lauderdale Dental Aesthetic Center

A root canal treatment removes diseased or inflammatory pulp from inside teeth. The tooth is then meticulously cleansed, disinfected, filled, and sealed. Root canal therapy aims to save the normal tooth, prevent infection, and eradicate bacteria from the diseased root canal.

A Root Canal: What is it?

An endodontic therapy, or root canal, is a dental procedure used to treat infections in the pulp of your teeth, which is their innermost layer. In the US, endodontists and dentists perform over 15 million root canals annually. By taking good care of your teeth, you can frequently prevent the need for a root canal.

Why Would I Need a Root Canal?

If microorganisms in your mouth infiltrate the pulp of your tooth and induce inflammation, you might require a root canal (pulpitis). The pulp of your teeth could be attacked by microorganisms if:

  • You have a deep cavity that needs treatment.
  • You have a cracked or damaged tooth, and bacteria from plaque infects your tooth pulp.
What is Root Canal Treatment?

A “root canal” is a component of a tooth, not a therapy. The pulp is the hollow portion of a tooth that houses blood, arteries, nerve tissue, and other cells.

A tooth is made up of roots and a crown. The roots are below the gum line, while the crown is primarily above it. The tooth and jawbone are joined by the roots.

The pulp is located inside the crown, root, or root canal. It provides nutrients to the tooth. The pulp’s nerves perceive temperature as pain.

The dental process sometimes called a “root canal” is called endodontic therapy, which means “inside the tooth.”

Primary signs that indicate a root canal therapy (RCT) may be necessary:

  • Piercing aches. An excruciating, paroxysmal ache that can spread to the ears and temples worsens at night.
  • Pain that lingers for very long after having something hot or cold.
  • Presence of swelling over your gums that may have pus
  • You might experience severe headache.
  • Feeling feverish.

A root canal infection won’t go away on its own. When a toothache goes away, it usually indicates that the tooth’s nerve has died. It’s possible that the infection that first started the condition is still there and will keep attacking the nearby tissues. If left untreated, infections can cause severe harm to the jawbone, cause an abscess and lead to systemic sickness.

Is a root canal painful?

A root canal isn’t more unpleasant than a standard dental operation, like getting a dental filling or having a tooth extracted, because patients are given an anesthetic. After the surgery, a root canal typically leaves the patient somewhat numb -, and it may -cause some minor discomfort for a few days. Typically the pain reduces significantly after the root canal treatment.

Reasons

Experts pinpoint multiple primary factors contributing to pulpitis, an inflammation of the dental nerves that necessitates a root canal.

  1. A caries-related consequence that arises from delayed dental cavity treatment. The great majority of pulpitis cases are caused by this most frequent reason. Once the dentin and enamel are destroyed by pathogenic microorganisms, the infection spreads to the pulp, – and causes an inflammatory response.
  2. Following dental trauma. These comprise severe tooth fractures, dislocations, and chips.
  3. After and as a result of exposure to chemicals, temperature, and drugs. When pulp overheats during therapeutic treatments, it can sometimes result from mistakes made during dental treatment.

How much does it cost on average for the root canal treatment? Root canal treatments usually cost approximately $900 – $1200.
